Having been a musician all of her life, music is a part of Ting Lin’s identity.

Ting Lin’s musical journey started when she was just five, playing classical piano with her mother by her side in southern China. She practiced everyday for eight years with weekly lessons, monthly recitals, and yearly level exams. Aside from that, she grew up in a household where music was always playing and karaoke parties were family traditions. She was listening to music from 70s Cantonese classics, to 80s Mandarin pop, to 90s American RnB all at the same time. Ting Lin’s passion for music was always supported by her family.

At twelve years of age, Ting Lin arrived to America. She underwent formal vocal training while attending high school in Los Angeles. With both piano and vocal trainings under her belt, she decided to move to New York after college, where she started performing and songwriting. Her music journey continued to the capital, Washington D.C and beyond.

Having been a musician all of her life, music is a part of Ting Lin’s identity. “Music is where I turn to reflect on life”, Ting Lin explains, “It’s how I connect with people, and where I can show the most vulnerable part of myself to them.” All of that translates in Ting Lin’s compositions, songwriting and performances, as she challenges the preexisting rules and formulas that are imposed upon musicians, particularly minority women. “I am blurring the lines between genres and sounds”, Ting Lin emphasizes, “I want to refresh the ears of the American audience with foreign languages, and highlight important societal issues in order to inspire action and change.”
